Bad moon rising

The Australian 10 July 2012

This blog has already made its admiration for the strategic genius of future Prime Minister Paul “The Napoleon of the ALP” Howes abundantly clear, but frankly his latest gambit of picking a fight with the Greens (paywalled link) just when the carbon tax has come into play has taken it to a new level. A great big stink between the two main architects of our glorious Clean Energy Future will certainly strengthen people’s confidence in the new initiative and make it far easier to secure any necessary tweaking to a fairly tricky piece of legislation. Well played sir, I blame the full moon.

The Dreamtime

The Australian 6 July 2012

Remember back when both major parties would unite in a spirit of bipartisanship, putting the national interest ahead of petty politics? Well no, of course, but at least they used to fake it better.

Anyway, Tony’s pulled the pin on a bipartisan approach to the referendum on acknowledging first Australians in the Constitution (paywalled link) presumably on the grounds that he is constitutionally incapable of saying yes to anything until he is Prime Minster.

It’s a bit of a pity, to say the least.

Shafted

Let’s face it, the outlook for newspapers currently looks a bit grim. The only person who seems keen on them at all is Gina Rinehart (paywalled link), and rather unfortunately, her love seems pretty much unrequited on the suspicion that she might force everybody say nice things about mining (mining is lovely by the way, just in case). This is a pity for all concerned.
