Ships in the night

The Australian 1 July 2011

As an island continent, pretty much every single problem besetting our once-great nation can be sheeted home to seagoing transport (well that’s where the trouble started anyway).

Coal, cows, human beings seeking succour from political oppression, they’re all the same if they’re in a bloody boat and as such I demand an immediate moratorium on all boats in all directions until it can be sorted out, starting with the immediate removal of that “girt by sea” line in the national anthem which is just asking for trouble.
